Explore New Pastimes at Jetson’s First Hobby Day - MARCH 15(Time: 11am - 2pm)

Jetson’s TV & Appliances will hold its first ever Hobby Day on Wednesday March 15 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Jetson’s St. Lucie West location. Exhibitors representing various hobbies and pursuits will be in attendance to share resources and information about design, genealogy, photography, travel, gardening, decorating, and collecting. Local area architects and interior designers will offer a free consultation to attendees who make an appointment.
Representatives from Heathcoate Botanical Gardens in Fort Pierce will be available to discuss gardening as well as showcasing specimens from the James J. Smith Bonsai Gallery. Cris Adams, president of the board for Heathcoate said of the collection, “It’s the largest public display of tropical bonsai in the US and it’s right in our backyard.” Bonsai Master Smith was the first person to bonsai tropical and subtropical plants such as ficus trees and jade. The Heathcoate Gallery has 100 specimens in their permanent collection.
Adams will also discuss the Art of Tea featuring several pieces from her personal teapot collection. Tea will be served for a donation to Heathcoate Botanical Gardens.
Attendees can receive a free design consultations by advance appointmenty with an area AIA Architect and Angela Speck, an ASID interior designer. Attendees should bring photos of the spaces that require advice to the consultation. Appointments may be scheduled with the Architects by calling 772-370-9464. Latin themed refreshments will be provided by travel Consultants, art historians and design experts, Jane Howard and Nancy Bredemyer. The pair will exhibit the latest on travel to Cuba and discuss tips about traveling to the island nation that recently re-opened to tourists.
The Treasure Coast Genealogical Association will have two computer areas set up and will help attendees begin searching their roots or help people with search problems and questions. They will also provide tips for searching family trees without the aid of a computer.
As a special treat, photographer Barry Alsobrook will be taking photos of attendees with the sailfish that just missed breaking the world record in 2003. The fish was caught by Jetson’s owner, John Jetson. Attendees can also have their photo taken with Ernest Hemingway Key West look-alike contestant, Roger McCarron.
“How we spend our spare time can enrich our lives and help define us as individuals. We are excited to have the opportunity to introduce people to new hobbies by offering a venue for local experts to share their knowledge and passion,” said Jetson.
